Today, after almost 24 hours in transit, I arrived in DaNang (Vietnam) at approximately 6.30pm (local time) [9.30pm EST].
I am the member of a team of 9 people scoping and observing community development work in Vietnam and Thailand.
The 24 hours in transit included an 8 hour stop-over in Singapore, and a visit to the Singapore Zoo, as we waited for a connecting flight.
After a few airport departure delays, interference from tropical weather, and numerous screening and customs points the team arrived in good (albeit tired) spirits to a warm welcome from Paul Hilton and a few members of the ACC International Relief team.
Hotel check-in, followed by Dinner and a relatively early night and we awake to the prospect of a big and exciting day.
Today we’ll be heading out about an hour from DaNang to deliver approximately 30 piglets.
Managed effectively, these piglets can change lives by providing a sustainable food and income source to impoverished families.
The best two piglets of the first litter from each pig are then passed on to another family as a ‘pay it forward’, eventually building the capacity of the entire village.
Isaiah 58:6,7 (NLT) says:
Free those who are wrongly imprisoned; lighten the burden of those who work for you. Let the oppressed go free, and remove the chains that bind people.
Poverty oppresses and chains people.
I look forward to considering and witnessing some of the ongoing work that is causing those chains to be removed.
