Non-billboard challenges consumer culture

Public art is sometimes controversial, frequently maligned and all too rarely appreciated.

Commissioned by the U.S. government and conceived and produced by art and architecture firm, Lead Pencil Studio, Non-sign II is public art at its finest.

It is striking in its apparent simplicity and use of negative space in framing the sky behind it. But on closer inspection it is undoubtedly intricate and extremely well designed.

In a world where marketing messages bombard us, it is refreshing to use a billboard (of sorts) to draw attention to the beauty of nature.
